Abstract
Immigrant students who have experienced interrupted formal education in their native countries will, on average, experience a two-year grade gap compared to other immigrant students. This is one of the conclusions coming from a study conducted on immigrant students using data from the 2002 Educational Longitudinal Study. Other findings from this study indicate that 11.4% of 10th grade immigrant students have interrupted formal schooling, and 65% of these students are more likely to arrive in the U.S. at the age of 12 or older.
