Abstract
This study investigated how dual language learners' (DLLs) home language and literacy environments to their oral receptive and expressive abilities in both languages. The children studied were Chinese-English DLLs in U.S. preschool programs serving children from low-income backgrounds. The study's key findings are discussed in terms of language(s) used during parental book reading, the language(s) parents use to converse with their children, and the effect of parenting style on children's language skills.
