Abstract
The authors of this article review the research on the development of academic language in ELs to determine if effective instructional practices with ELs could be used to nurture the academic language of d/Deaf students. The authors discuss EL research on academic talk, reading comprehension, vocabulary, writing, technology, teacher training, sheltered instruction, and small-group instruction. They conclude by suggesting that findings from EL research can inform instructional practices to support the development of academic language with d/Deaf students.
