Abstract
This study compared children's receptive and expressive word learning using three types of media (i.e., print text, video, and electronic text) in kindergarten and fourth grade classrooms that included ELs and non-ELs. The results showed effects of media type by grade level and level of English proficiency. In kindergarten, video was more effective for supporting ELs' receptive and expressive vocabulary development. In fourth grade, the results suggest print texts may be more effective for ELs while video and electronic text are more effective for non-ELs.
