Abstract

In this position paper issued collectively by the Equity Assistance Centers' directors, the authors underscore their commitment to the successful implementation of the Common Core State Standards by identifying the critical equity issues that must be addressed if the new standards are to be implemented in a way that helps ensure that every student will succeed, especially those who have long been underserved. This paper outlines six equity goals, along with key questions that educators should consider if the needs of all learners are to be appropriately and adequately met. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations to help educators ensure equity as they continue implementing the new standards.
