Abstract
The purpose of this qualitative study is to gather data on the values and practices of Mexican immigrant families. The researchers interviewed 35 Mexican mothers of toddler-age children about their children's everyday experiences. An analysis of the responses was done to identify underlying cultural beliefs and values about language, learning, and social activities. The findings clarify how Mexican immigrant families support their children's communication skills. Several strengths of the families were identified. The implications of this study for early childhood education programs serving Mexican immigrant families are discussed.
