Abstract
New America convened a group of leading experts on ELs to launch its new Dual Language Learners National Work Group. This brief summarizes the work group's discussions on how American schools can better support ELs. The work group announced three primary tasks for its inaugural year: (1) translation of cutting edge research on ELs to ensure that policymakers and the public are well-informed about what ELs need; (2) spotlighting classrooms, schools, and districts that are innovating to serve ELs better; and (3) convening and connecting EL stakeholders throughout the country to build consensus within that community and bring new voices into that conversation.
