This guide suggests effective practices for implementing a parent-involvement program to help schools improve their bilingual education and English as a Second Language programs. Designed for use by administrators, teachers and other staff that work with limited-English proficient students and their parents, the guide lists procedures for assessing family background, concerns and interests; parent involvement; and monitoring program success. The information guide is based on two documents: A Manual for Encouraging Parent-Community Involvement in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language Programs, developed by the Ohio Department of Education and Effective Practices for Successful Bilingual Parent Involvement Programs: An Administrators Handbook, developed by the New Jersey State Department of Education.
