This publication describes two approaches for teaching mathematics skills to limited English proficient students. Cognitively Guided Instruction focuses on students' thought processes while solving mathematics problems, and allows teachers to accommodate individual learning styles. Active Mathematics Teaching is a structured teaching sequence incorporating review, new content, seatwork and homework. Sample activities for implementing the methods are included. (cas)
